It’s been another busy week. We started with popcorn on the fire on Monday, with lots of discussion about what was happening to the popcorn and the sound it made. We made pancakes on Tuesday, the children mixed the batter and chose their toppings. We cooked them inside in the morning and outside in the afternoon and they were delicious!
We also celebrated World Book Day by reading lots of stories, some children (and staff) dressed up or had their face painted. The World Book Day campaign this year is to ‘SHARE A STORY FOR 10 MINUTES TODAY’ to get everyone sharing stories from breakfast to bedtime on World Book Day and beyond. Reading with your child now, can have long-lasting benefits for their future and because we know how busy you are, the great news is that reading together for JUST 10 MINUTES a day can make all the difference. Here are some fun and easy ways to join in:
• Find 10 minutes every day to read with your child. It doesn’t just have to happen at bedtime – reading and sharing stories can happen anywhere at any time.
• Visit your local bookshop & help your child choose their FREE World Book Day book with their £1 book token. If you haven’t received your token, please ask a member of staff.
• Choose a book at your local library to read together – join the library and start a new habit of visiting the library on a regular basis.
For lots of ideas on how you can make story time fun as well as advice on sharing stories with your little ones and encouraging a lifelong love of reading, visit www.worldbookday.com. There is a list of the top 100 stories to share to help you to discover new books and stories that you’ll love sharing together.
If you scroll down you will see the staff at Hampden Way with their favourite book recommendations. We’d love to see what you’re reading and your favourite stories, so if your child has a favourite story they would like us to share at nursery, please bring it in. A love of reading is one of life’s greatest gifts so happy reading together and happy World Book Day!
