What children learn?
As well as developing knowledge and skills, we are concerned with children’s personal, social and emotional development. They learn to share, what is acceptable behaviour and what is not and how to form relationships with other children and adults.
Young children learn best when they actually experience something, rather than being told about it. In the nursery we try to provide them with as many different experiences as possible. We aim to create challenges for them within a secure setting.
Most activities in the nursery school and Children’s Centre are open-ended and all children who wish to can take part. If, there is an activity where we have to limit numbers, we ensure that over a period of time every child will benefit from the experience.
Whenever the children do a drawing, painting, make a model or any other art work, it involves a lot of time, effort and concentration. It is this part of the process that is important and not the end product. It is very important that you value and praise their work and show an interest in what they have done at the nursery to acknowledge all of the effort that has been put into the end product.
